About Melvin

In both my fiction and non-fiction writing, I point people to Jesus and His various means of grace toward us: the gospel, the Scriptures, the Holy Spirit, and other Christians. I seek to be authentic, not acting like I have all the answers but pointing to the One who does and is the Answer to all of life’s perplexing questions.

The Christian suspense thriller genre interests me because of the creative depths I can go to in obeying my call. The Scriptures are a limitless trove of story inspiration. And fictionalizing biblical truth in gripping ways excites me. For in the Bible the Creator primarily speaks, not the creation. Providing the hope of Jesus in the midst of impossible situations through novels is a thrilling adventure.

When I accepted God’s call into ministry, I comically, yet seriously told Him He’d have to speak through me because I had nothing to say. He replied, “Duh!”

And since the Bible is God’s Word to us, all my non-fiction writing stems from specific biblical passages, either expounding on revealed truth on subjects or seeking God’s perspective on topics. Being faithful to the text is my goal.

What a joy it is to glorify God and help others through the written word.

Bottom line, I love to write about God because I love Jesus.

For by grace, God called me to be a communicator of His truth, namely the gospel, through four primary callings—preaching, teaching, writing, & music. My greatest joy is doing this for my daughters & grandson.

Jesus saved me at an early age, but seriously got my attention in the Army. He continued drawing me closer to Him during an almost seven-year stint as an LAPD officer. I’ve been pursuing Him now for over 30 years both privately and publicly in different churches stateside & overseas and with urban mission organizations, serving as a senior, worship, youth, and associate pastor—not at the same time, though. I followed Jesus as I earned my Bachelor in Christian Ministries from California Baptist University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and my Master of Theological Studies, with a Preaching and Pastoral Ministry emphasis, from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. And right now, I am pursuing Jesus through doctoral studies concentrating on Biblical Spiritual Formation and Soul Care at Grace Theological Seminary. Furthermore, He’s had me working in car sales, and currently I’m tentmaking as a licensed independent insurance broker.
